We would like to draw your attention to, and highlight in neon lights, a relatively new opportunity offered at the Birth Resource Centre. The BRC is now open for anyone to drop-in every Monday afternoon during term time between 2.30 and 4pm.
We began these open sessions in mid-February and so far they have been met with affirming support and growing attendance. However, we feel that the availability should be publicised more widely and proclaimed more emphatically in order that the most women and families possible are able to benefit from this exciting venture.
It has been our intention for a long time to have the BRC open as much as possible so that local women are able to access information and support whenever they need it. Unfortunately limited resources, including financial and volunteer availability, meant that the centre was only open during class times until recently. The Monday drop-in’s are a beginning step towards what we would hope to eventually offer. The sessions thus far have offered social time for women to meet and talk over a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit. They provide an opportunity to find some peer support, to use the well-stocked library and to find out more about the Birth Resource Centre and what it offers from the volunteers who open the centre for these sessions.
Another great benefit over the past two months has been the time offered by Vroni Holzmann and a few regular volunteers who have reinvented the downstairs space in the BRC. Those of you who have been downstairs recently will have noticed the transformation in the room. Our library, full of current literature on many aspects of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood, is now to be found surrounded by comfortable sofas, cushions and ambient lighting.
So if you have any spare time on one, or every, Monday afternoon please come in and join us for tea, a chat and a chance to find out more about the centre, classes and all aspects of the Birth Resource Centre.
We look forward to welcoming you after Easter on Monday 24th April.
Many thanks to Vroni and the regular Monday volunteers for their hard work in the past few months and for creating such a warm and welcoming area at the BRC.
